Cindy Gamrat has been somewhat improbable in a county with an entrenched Republican establishment where alliances can go back decades.

Gamrat and her family moved to Plainwell only five years ago from northern Indiana. She quickly became a force in the state’s Tea Party movement, which saw her as a fast-rising star: An articulate, attractive, ambitious home-school mom who embraced conservative Christian values and small government.

Backed by the Tea Party, she won a four-way race in the 2014 GOP primary for the 80th District state House seat to replace term-limited Republican Bob Genetski. Gamrat cruised to victory in November in the heavily Republican county, becoming a state lawmaker in her first run for elected office.

910am welcomes her to the family!
