In a last-ditch effort to stay out of prison,  former Detroit principal Stanley Johnson paid his $84,000 restitution in full just days before sentencing, but the judge still locked him up for stealing from the state’s poorest schoolchildren.

Johnson was sentenced to 15 months in prison this morning for accepting $84,000 in kickbacks from a millionaire school vendor who ripped off  Detroit Public Schools in a bigger scheme with the help of a dozen principals and an assistant superintendent.
