Lawyers representing a group of parents and students announced today that they’ve filed a lawsuit against Gov. Rick Snyder and state officials in what is believed to be the country’s first federal civil rights lawsuit that deals with access to literacy.

Children in Detroit Public Schools Community District, the Education Achievement Authority reform district and charter schools in the city have faced discrimination and endured violations of their constitutional rights, according to the complaint.
