Scholarships for Success Gala Dinner to support Oakland County students

Scholarships will aid students pursuing post-secondary education, 21st century jobs

WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Companies can help kickstart the careers of tomorrow’s medical professionals, engineers and skilled tradesmen and women by sponsoring the Scholarships for Success Gala Dinner, scheduled for April 27, 2017 at 6 p.m. at the Tam O’Shanter Country Club, 5051 Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield Township.

The event, presented by the Oakland Schools Education Foundation in support of Oakland Schools, helps students at the Oakland Schools Technical Campuses attend college or participate in apprenticeships.

“These scholarships can be life-changing for Oakland County students, including the community’s future entrepreneurs, chefs and computer programmers,” said Jeff Sakwa, Oakland Schools Education Foundation’s Board of Trustees vice president and president of Noble Realty. “Oakland Schools Technical Campuses are producing well-trained and talented students, and these scholarships link all students — not just a few — to top-notch educational opportunities and careers.”

The scholarships are awarded to students in career technical education programs and are awarded based on their personal goals, academic achievement in technical fields, internships, work experience and need.

Joe Hinrichs, president of The Americas, Ford Motor Co., will be keynote speaker at the dinner.

“Companies today are hungry for top-notch talent, and rely on students having a high-quality education and hands-on training after graduation,” Hinrichs said. “I’m proud to support this program because it gives talented Oakland County students who need a little boost a chance for a bright future while keeping Michigan’s talent pipeline flowing.”

“We are looking forward to partnering with local businesses that are invested in the lives of talented students in this county,” continued Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson, superintendent of Oakland Schools and vice president of administrative services for the Oakland Schools Education Foundation. “Nineteen out of 20 career and technical education students are successfully placed in jobs, apprenticeships, the military or colleges and universities upon graduation. We need to support these dedicated and hard working students through scholarships so they have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.”

Sponsorship packages range from $250 to $25,000, and event tickets are $175 each. Forms are due by March 23 and are available at dinner.
