Michigan man claims police restrained him, beat him unconscious, causing vision loss in left eye

A Michigan man says he was restrained by police and beaten so badly that he lost consciousness and can no longer fully see with his left eye. Frankie Taylor was arrested for drunken driving in Detroit suburb Eastpointe last August, and said that officers made him sit in a restraint chair after he fell down during booking. A lawsuit filed earlier this year says that one officer put on a rubber glove before hitting Taylor with a closed fist at least 10 times as he lost consciousness. Grandmother in custody, warrant request submitted for grandson

Police said the three boys  — ages 13, 14 and 15 –are grandchildren of the homeowner. The boys allegedly went upstairs to the grandmother’s bedroom and took a revolver. Police said the boys wanted to scare Watkins. The gun went off and the bullet hit Watkins in the chest. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and a coalition of civic, community and business leaders today introduced the new Detroit ID, a municipal identification card that will help thousands of Detroiters gain access to important city services, interact with the Detroit Police Department, financial institutions, cultural organizations, as well as shopping and dining discounts across Detroit.
