MSU in ‘win-now’ mode, not looking to ’17

East Lansing — While many Michigan State fans are starting to wonder if personnel moves might be made with the future in mind, coach Mark Dantonio wants it to be known he has every intention of playing to win. After Saturday’s 31-14 loss to BYU, the third straight for a Spartan team that hasn’t dropped three in a row since 2009, the head coach remains focused on turning things around now, and that includes a decision about who will be the starting quarterback. Brad Ausmus ‘would love to’ manage Detroit Tigers next season

ATLANTA – There was not an elephant in a room. The visiting manager’s office at Turner Field is certainly too small for that, especially with a dozen reporters crowded inside after the Detroit Tigers’ season ended Sunday afternoon. But as manager Brad Ausmus answered questions about what went wrong earlier in the day against the Atlanta Braves and the team’s inconsistency throughout the season, ultimately leading to them missing the postseason for a second straight year, one question loomed largest: Would Ausmus be the man to lead them in 2017? With one mighty swing, Cabrera untied it and essentially ended it, his three-run homer giving the Tigers a 6-3 lead over the Indians. After another delay of one hour, 12 minutes, the game was called and the critical victory was official. (detnews.com – Bob Wojnowski) Click here...

Newton had just finished dominating the NFL regular season, in which he walked away with the MVP and almost dabbed his team to an undefeated season. In the Super Bowl, Superman turned back into Clark Kent. It happens. But he was still riding the high. He was speaking our language and doing our dance. Then something happened. Superman became Bizarro Superman. Like an altered version of himself, Cam “Black Lives Matter” Newton became Cam “All Lives Matter” Newton. Politically, Newton...

Niyo: Pistons looking for improvement from within

Auburn Hills — It’s more than a feeling now. It’s something they can see, too. So as the Pistons gathered Monday for their annual media day, the positive vibes were more than just platitudes, and the confidence came from more than simply new faces. It was grounded in reality, or in the case of All-Star center Andre Drummond, a virtual reality. And in a summer full of self-improvement for Stan Van Gundy’s young, upwardly-mobile roster, that’s as good a place to start as anywhere. With Drummond confronting the biggest obstacle to his own personal growth as a player: the...
