A Detroit grandmother was being questioned Monday afternoon after a 13-year-old boy was fatally shot by a friend who played with a gun the woman left on her nightstand, police said.

Police were questioning the woman because she maintained that her bedroom door had been locked and the teens broke into the room, said Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody.
